Celtic Knot Pillow

The Celtic Knot Pillow and its companion were designed as learning tools: the center square is one of three knit in the round and divided by steeks; once cut apart, you pick up around the edges and knit the deep mitered border.

The pattern was my first experiment in designing from a visual inspiration piece (in this case, a Japanese woodblock print of a woman wearing a kimono)—it uses lots and lots of colors, but of course you could choose your own and reduce the number of shades involved.
